The task before us is significant, grave, and clear. It is significant because the commission has been given to us by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. It is grave because Scripture plainly tells us that people are perishing eternally because of their sin and God's judgment against it and missing out on the life he's purchased for them. It is clear because it is frequently communicated in a clear and precise manner in God's Word: "Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.' For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. He desires all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest" (Matt. 28:18-20, John 3:16-17, 1 Tim. 2:4, Rom. 10:13-15, and Matt. 9:38, ESV).
